Last Ride of Season before the Snow Came

 Well I rode in the morning and the snow came in the afternoon. I just rode with video on and then took 'moments' out of the video to get some pictures.

Some Similarities between MTB Biking and Nordic Skiing

 

Some Similarities between MTB biking and Nordic Skiing

 

1)Heart rate goes up and down at around the same places as it would if you were skiing.

2)You coast/tuck on your bike where you would tuck on skis.

3)You try to roll up on the bike, roller coasters, just like you would on skis trying not to lose much speed

4)When you are in first gear on the bike, it is likely that you would be doing the herringbone on skis

5)When you go around a corner the weight is on the outside pedal with the hips going to the inside of the corner, and the shoulder is over the ankle, just like on Nordic skis

6)Your whole upper body is being used as you pull on the handlebars just like the whole body is being used going up a hill on skis with elbows out like a chicken wing, bluck, bluck.

7)You change through the gears on the bike going up or down a hill, just like you would Nordic skiing not missing any gears. I.e. sidestep, herringbone, diagonal stride, one step DP and DP and then tuck

8)Riding soft grass with fatbikes is like skiing in wet snow, or new snow with temperatures of -20C

9)You are can ride 3 or 4 hours, just like it is doable on Nordic skis.

10)Unless you are DP or coasting your legs are in constant motion just like cycling.

11)On bumpy terrain your legs are constantly flexing and absorbing the uneven surface, on either the bicycle or Nordic skis.

12)You are constantly thinking of the speed, terrain, what gearing is best either skis or bike. Split decisions of balance and timing on either skis or bike plays an especially important part of either staying up or falling.

13) When climbing your body weight is shifted deliberately from one side to the other in both Nordic skiing and cycling. You balance your body forward and backward depending on the pitch of the terrain.

14)You apply power to the brakes just like you snowplow to control your speed around a corner, before letting the skis glide or the bike roll. You are probably timid at the same spots on either the bike or skis.
